Weekend Recap: Numerous Sub-17 / Sub-20 5k's

Olan Welch XC Classic

Biancamano is Back

After a bit of a break, All-State #1 Brooklyn Biancamano is back, running 19:11 and winning her 2nd race of the season. As a matter of fact, Biancamano ran 19:11 to win The Opener, and also won by about the same margin. However, that will soon be over as Biancamano will finally see some great competition at Jesse Owens this weekend, which is up next for her on the schedule and she is slated to run in the gold division. I'm not going to throw times in the air, because as excited as PR's can make us, that's really not what cross country is about. However, if Biancamano finds herself in the top 10, I'm sure she would be extremely happy walking away from her performance at the end of the day.

Leverett gets first Win, Strong Runner-up from Hewes

Keegan Leverett bounced back from Saltillo, getting his first win of the season on a somewhat hilly course, running 16:28 FTW. It was said that Leverett simply took it out hard and led from the gun and simply increased his lead on Hewes each mile, winning by 19 seconds in total. I thought this was a great step for Leverett as he ran a 'casual' sub 16:30 on a hard course, and is 1 step closer to breaking 16 this year.

Jack Hewes from Saint Patrick also had a very strong run, and one that shouldn't be ignored. His 16:47 was his first ever sub-17 of his career, which is a pretty serious time as a sophomore. Coming in only 19 seconds behind the All-State #4 is no joke. With Hewes and Leverett now in the same class, we could perhaps see quite the in-class rivalry forming between these 2 studs.
